Name: Teachery

Official Website: www.teachery.co

Founders: Jason Zook and Gerlando Piro

Price: $49 per month or $470 per year

Rating: 50/100

What is Teachery

This is a platform that allows you to develop your online course content, offer it to your students in a simple and easy way, and make money from it.

Teachery aims to make creating online courses as cheap and simple as possible, and for that reason, it gives unique features and provisions that ensure the users have a great experience with it.

Although it doesn’t offer the best resources out there, it surely goes a long way for someone who wishes to start building and selling courses online without much technical knowledge.

It is easy to set everything up in your course with Teachery and if you get stuck, their customer support team is among the best online so you shouldn’t have problems with getting help.

And the good thing is, not only does the customer service team give you a hand, but also the creators themselves also play a huge role in this area as they answer their users directly when they have issues with the system.

Teachery was founded in 2014 after its two founders, Jason Zook and Gerlando Piro, met at a conference in Fargo, North Dakota, and decided to work together.

How Teachery Works

Teachery provides a place where you can have your online courses developed, designed, and made available to people who would be interested in them.

However, unlike most other platforms that offer you the provisions for creating your videos, adding photos, quizzes, and other learning materials directly to your course, Teachery takes a different approach.

As earlier mentioned, in their effort to minimize the price they charge you for their service, they don’t provide the tools for populating your courses with these visuals and resources to make the courses valuable.

teachery features

Instead, they give you the ability to add an embed code to your online courses that integrate these resources for you.

So what you will do is, create your course videos from other video creation services such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia and then use the embed code for the videos to add them to your Teachery course.

The same case applies to your photos, quizzes, and slide presentations.

You are encouraged to use Canva, SlideShare, Prezi, and Google Slides for slide presentations, and SoundCloud for your audio resources.

For quizzes, you can use quiz maker tools such as Easy Test Maker, QuizMaker from iSpring, Class Marker and Quiz Works.

When you have added them, you can then further design and style your course as you wish.

You are given many styling resources to make your courses easy to use and also appealing to the students.

To get a good picture of these resources, let’s take a deep look at the features you get within Teachery.

Teachery Features

The platform offers very simplistic yet essential features which include;

√Simple live course editor

This is what you will be using to edit all the text in your course. It is easy to use just like you use email platforms to write and send emails to people.

The editor also saves your work automatically so that it doesn’t get lost when you go to other websites. Teachery recommends using the Google Chrome browser for the best experience with the editor, although other popular browsers also work well with it.

Also, you get to choose between 2 templates to use in your course.

There is the minimal template that presents your course in a simplified layout and there is the sidebar template that works with a box-like layout.

√Unlimited lessons, students, and courses

When it comes to creating lessons and the number of students you can have in your account, space is the limit.

Teachery doesn’t have limits on these so you are free to run wild here.

I think this is a nice offer considering that other platforms charged hundreds of dollars per month for that alone.

On top of the unlimited courses, you are given the opportunity to create as many lessons and sub lessons as you want.

You can even duplicate a course in seconds if you want to use the styles and some of the information in an existing course to create another course.

√Course style editor

This is what you will be using to give your courses an appealing touch that makes them look neat and presentable.

You are allowed to customize literally every page you will have on your courses.

From course pages, payment pages, sales pages, you name it.

And you can change anything that has color on your courses, that includes, buttons, headings, and sections, just to name a few.

√Promo codes, recurring payments, and payment pages

You are also given full freedom to dictate how payments for your course will be like.teachery layouts

If you want to offer free courses, you can.

If you want to offer one-off payments, you can.

The same goes for monthly or yearly payments.

Teachery supports Stripe so you can use it to collect payments.

The sad thing about it though is that it doesn’t support PayPal.

However, if you still want to use PayPal, you can take PayPal payments outside of Teachery and then use Zapier to connect your students with your courses in Teachery.

There is a tool that lets you manually add students to your courses so that you reach more students beyond the limits of Teachery.

You can also give your students promo codes that give them discounts on your courses, and you are the one who determines how long the codes can be active.

√Course bundles and memberships

If you plan to have courses where students have to buy memberships and make recurring payments to access your work, Teachery can help with that too.

With the help of Zapier integration, you can make that possible in your course and have a seamless experience so that you put more of your focus on delivering valuable content to your students every month.

√Email integration with Convertkit and Mailchimp

You can easily work with ConvertKit or Mailchimp to capture emails from your sales pages or landing pages.

If you wish to use another email marketing provider, it is still possible and you will be guided on how to do that by the support team.

√Welcome and congratulations emails

Teachery provides you emails you can send to your students once they register for your courses and after they complete them.

You don’t have to worry about having to look for good copy-writers to do that.

√Analytics and tracking code

These allow you to keep tabs on the development of your courses and lessons as well as how much you are making from the people who are buying the courses.

For this, you can either plugin your analytics provider’s code to get deeper data or use the Google inbuilt Analytics integration as provided by the platform, it’s all a matter of preference.

√Other great features

Other awesome features that top up the overall value of your courses include:

– Ability to have custom domainsteachery features

– Free SSL certification for your domains so that you get the more secure HTTPS version of your domains

– Ability to export crucial files through a simple CSV file

– Ability to schedule your course lessons as you please

– Ability to facilitate commenting and community in your courses

– Ability to have affiliates promoting your courses as Teachery handles their payments

– Access to email capture, sales, and landing pages

Competitor Comparison

When it comes to the online space for online courses, there are so many companies that offer these services, which makes the competition for Teachery.

Some of the competing platforms include Teachable, Podia, LearnWorlds, Thinkific, and Kajabi and we will be looking at how they compare to Teachery.

I will help you understand the essence of each platform, the features it comes with as well as the price, and see if they are better than Teachery or not.

√Teachable vs Teachery

Starting with Teachable, it allows you to sell online courses as well as coaching services.

In terms of features, Teachable provides you with more than what you get with Teachery, with the extra features including allowing for multiple instructors, course upsells, sharing course revenue and so much more.

As far as the cost goes, Teachable is a bit expensive. There are 3 plans, the Basic plan (which goes for $39/month), the Pro plan (which goes for $119/month), and the Business plan (which goes for $299/month).

The platform allows you a 14-day free trial as is the case with Teachery.

While the cost of Teachable is higher than Teachery’s, the value you get for the extra cost is totally worth it in my opinion.

And for that reason, I recommend Teachable.

√Podia vs Teachery

Podia prides itself as an all-inclusive digital marketplace because, with it, you can sell memberships, online courses, and digital downloads like ebooks.

Compared to Teachery, Podia’s pricing is cheaper as it includes the Mover’s plan at $39/month and the Shaker’s plan at $79/month, and you save big time when you use the annual plans.

The platform also offers a 14-day free trial like Teachery.

Looking further at the features, there are distinct disparities but podia wins because it offers more features such as better training options as well as support.

That being the case, I recommend going with podia here.

√Learn Worlds vs Teachery

Learn Worlds is a platform that helps you build online courses and sell them on your website.

It aims to help you create a well-optimized website for sharing your knowledge and skills and make money from it.

It compares to teachers in the following ways;

It offers a 30-day free trial period (and the good thing is that a credit card is not required as you use the free trial).

The pricing starts at $24/month which is far cheaper than Teachery.

Focusing on the features, it offers unique features that are very essential to course creation such as reporting and analytics, quizzes, advanced learning, and video analytics as well as a custom mobile app, just to name a few.

And this makes it better than Teachery in terms of quality of features and the cost you pay for it thus making it the best option.

√Kajabi vs Teachery

Kajabi offers all the tools and resources you need for your online courses and saves you the hassle of having to use other integrations to build an awesome course.

When put up against Teachery, it comes with a hefty price tag that starts at $199/month with the Basic plan.

The other plans are the Growth plan that goes for $199/month and the Pro plan that costs $399/month.

However, you save 20% through the annual billing.

You get a 14-day free trial period just as teachery does, but features set the two apart completely.

Some of the features that Kajabi offers that bring about this distinction include advanced automation, assessments such as quizzes and surveys, and much more that puts this platform above Teachery.

If you want an advanced platform with state-of-the-art features and you are ready to cough more than a hundred dollars every month, Kajabi is your best match.

However, if you want to start small and grow slowly, Teachery will fit that bill.

√Thinkific vs Teachery

Thinkific is another great platform that gives you all that you need to create, design, and market your online courses.

Its features are more and sophisticated than those of Teachery.

In terms of cost, it also offers great deals. There is a free plan that you can use to create your courses and make money with them without spending a dollar.

Other than that, the paid plans, that come with even better features, start from $49 per month to $399 per month.

Thinkific is clearly the winner here as it caters to beginners who want to save money as well as big organizations who want great advanced features for different purposes.

My Final Thoughts on Teachery

Teachery is a good platform for making money with online courses but not a great one.

While it offers the basic features you need to achieve your goals, it falls short on so many levels.

Despite being in the market for a fairly long time, it really hasn’t done much to improve its features list.

I would recommend working with platforms like Thinkific which will offer you more features at a lower cost than you get with Teachery.

Other Teachery alternatives include Podia, Learn Worlds, and Teachable.

However, if you still feel that Teachery could be what you are looking for, feel free to give it a try.

It is a legitimate platform, only that it is limited in terms of features.

And I beg to stop there with my Teachery review now.

I hope this review has been informative and has helped you understand Teachery and its value in the market well.

Now it’s your time to make a decision.

If you have any other questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section and I will be more than happy to answer than.

Happy decision-making. 🙂
